PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATE IN MUSIC THERAPY
(Children with Special Needs)

  Mr. Pang is a prominent music therapist in Hong Kong. He is well known for his work with children with special needs. In over twenty years of clinical experience (over 14,000 hours), he has systematized the therapeutic use of music for these children. Not only has he perfected the use of Behavioral Music Therapy in Hong Kong, he has developed a wide base of clinical music activities as well as children song repertoire that are best suited for the Cantonese population. Besides, he is an expert in using music therapeutically in the treatment of autism. Integrating Applied Behavioral Analysis with music therapy, Mr. Pang has developed a program named Intensive Music Assisted Behavioral Training for these children.

  Mr. Pang has received training in Neurological Music Therapy (NMT) in November 2004 from The Biomedical Research Center, Colorado State University. NMT is an advance music therapy discipline based on scientific neurological researches. Its application is evidenced in neurological impairment such as cerebral palsy, autism and mental retardation.

  Apart from his rich clinical experience, he has also lectured, conducted training courses, trained staff as well as provided consultancy extensively (over 1000 hours) to educational and rehabilitation organizations in Hong Kong. He has been teaching a course “Introduction to Music Therapy” for The School of Professional and Continuing Education, University of Hong Kong since 1992. He had served as a part-time lecturer teaching “Music Therapy and Students with Special Needs” for the Education Department, University of Hong Kong from 1998-2003. He had also conducted numerous training courses and workshops for the City University, Institute of Vocational Education, The Hong Kong Spastics Society, Heep Hong Society, Tung Wah Group of Hospitals, Arts for the Disabled and many others.

  As the Clinical Training Director (CTD) of The American Music Therapy Association (AMTA) from 1995 to 2004. He was responsible for the training of music therapists during their internship. The work of a CTD is to supervise music therapy interns so as to ensure their quality of service in a clinical setting after they have completed an academic program. The Pang's Music Therapy Centre that he has founded had been approved as a clinical training site by the AMTA as well. And, by far, Mr. Pang is the only one having served as CTD in the Far East region.

Major achievements:

1989
Invited by the Department of Education to draft a music curriculum for special school.
1990
Established the first music therapy center in Hong Kong and, at the same time, a pragmatic music therapy model of private practice. The model includes intake assessment, clinical application of music and evaluation.
1991
Invited by the School of Professional and Continuing Education, The University of Hong Kong to teach a course "Introduction to Music Therapy". The course has continued until the present.
1994
Pioneered Auditory Integration Training in Hong Kong.
1995
Served as Clinical Training Director of The American Music Therapy Association until 2004.
1995
One of the founding members of the HK Music Therapy Association, served as Chairman until 2002.
1998
Designed the Pang's Piano Training for Intelligence Enhancement program. The program consists of 80 composed scores and lyrics as well as a comprehensive lesson plan.
1999
Invited by the Department of Education, The University of Hong Kong to teach an elective "Music Therapy and Students with Special Needs" for four consecutive years.
2000
Incorporating music therapy and Applied Behavioral Analysis to create a new program named Intensive Music Assisted Behavioral Training targeted for children with autism.
2003
Invited by the Department of Creative Arts, the Hong Kong Institute of Education to serve as external consultant for modules on Music Studies, B.Ed.(Special Needs) Programme.
2004
The producer, song writer, lyrist and lead vocalist of a music therapy kid song CD titled “彭嘉華兒歌作品集”.
2005
Designer and instructor of the Professional Certificate In Music Therapy (Children with Special Needs) program (100 hours).
2005
The sole lyricist of “Blue Christmas”, a commercially released CD produced by MMO Production Co. Ltd.
2005
Introduced and taught Neurologic Music Therapy (NMT) in Hong Kong.

The sole lyrist of a CD album “Blue Christmas”.
2007
The co-producer, song writer , lyricist and lead vocalist of a CD titled “ 音樂治療師的人生頌讚 ”.

Invited by Jones Lang LaSalle to conduct “ The Use of Music in Stress Management ” workshop for her staffs in 2007.
