Our training protocol for children with special needs is developed by our Centre Director Mr. Pang with over 20 years of experience in music therapy, special education as well as behavioral training. the protocol is based on behavioral and developmental psychology, implemented by our professional and experienced therapists and instructors with music to facilitate improvements in speech, cognitive, social-emotional, motor and music domains. As the training protocol is unique in many ways and should be differentiated from conventional music therapy practices, we have named this protocol "Pang's Music Assisted Training (PMAT)".
The salient features in PMAT is the use of positive reinforcement / reward, task analysis (the breaking down of treatments goals into small achievable steps) and music to facilitate learning. Behavioral training is one of the most evidence-based treatment for children with autism. It has been adapted by Dr. Lovaas to become Applied Behavioral Analysis, a mainstream treatment for autism. PMAT incorporates the versatile use of music in conjunction with behavioral training. The Centre uses hundreds of music instruments and teaching aids, together with a rich repertoire of activities to ensure an enriched environment to facilitate learning for children. |
