Mr. Pang Ka Wa, Paul is the most experienced music therapist, and the first person who practice s music therapy in Hong Kong. By far, he has over 20 years of experience (over 10,000 hours of clinical work with children with autism in our year 2000 statistic). Studying the learning characteristics of children with special needs (especially autism), incorporating large amount of specially designed music activities and self-composed kid songs, and integrating behavioral music therapy techniques, he has founded a unique therapy system named “Pang's Music Assisted Training”.

  
Mr. Pang graduated in Florida State University in 1983 majoring in music therapy. He studied with Dr. Clifford Madsen and Dr. Jayne Standley who are internationally renowned music therapist and researcher. In 1984, he has become a Registered Music Therapist with the American Music Therapy Association (AMTA). He has obtained a Certificate in Special Education in the Sir Robert Black College of Education and a Diploma in Education (music) in the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1989 and 1992 respectively. He has founded Hong Kong's first music therapy centre in 1990. The Curriculum Development Council of the Education Department in Hong Kong had invited him to help draft a music curriculum for the special schools of the mentally handicapped from 1989 to 1990. He has obtained a certificate in Auditory Integration Training in USA and become an AIT practitioner in 1994. He had served as Clinical Training Director of the AMTA from 1995 to 2004 and Pang's Music Therapy Centre had also been recognized as an approved clinical training site by the AMTA. In 2004, he had obtained a qualification N eurologic Music Therapist from the Center for Biomedical Research in Music , Colorado State University, and designated a title Neurologic Music Therapy Fellow (NMTF) in 2007. In June 2010, Mr. Pang had completed a Master program from the Monash University (Australia) and obtained a Master degree in Counseling.

Apart from his rich clinical experience, Mr. Pang has dedicated in music therapy staff program design, development as well as instruction. He has conducted well over one thousand hours of training programs and workshops for the educational, rehabilitation, medical and commercial organizations in Hong Kong so far. He has created a 100-hour program (9 modules) named Professional Certificate in Music Therapy (Children with Special Needs) in 2005 and at the same time, launched the first enrolment. He has been teaching “Introduction to Music Therapy” for the HKUSPACE since 1992; and he had served as part-time lecturer for the Education Department, University of Hong Kong teaching an elective “Music Therapy and Students with Special Needs” from 1998 to 2003. He has lectured and conducted numerous training programs and workshops for organizations in Hong Kong including the Hong Kong City University, Hong Kong Institute of Education, the Hong Kong Spastic Association, Heep Hong Society, Tung Wah Group of Hospitals, and the Hong Kong Arts for the Disabled. In recent years, he has developed “The Use of Music in Stress Management” program and had conducted the program for Jones Lang LaSalle, Reuters, Cathy Pacific, AT&T and Music Office in 2007 and 2009.

Major works:

1989
Invited by the Department of Education to draft a music curriculum for special school.
1990
Established the first music therapy center in Hong Kong and, at the same time, a pragmatic music therapy model of private practice. The model includes intake assessment, clinical application of music and evaluation.
1991
Invited by the School of Professional and Continuing Education, The University of Hong Kong to teach a course "Introduction to Music Therapy". The course has continued until the present.
1994
Pioneered Auditory Integration Training in Hong Kong.
1995
Served as Clinical Training Director of The American Music Therapy Association until 2004.
1995
One of the founding members of the HK Music Therapy Association, served as Chairman until 2002.
1998
Designed the Pang's Piano Training for Intelligence Enhancement program. The program consists of 80 composed scores and lyrics as well as a comprehensive lesson plan.
1999
Invited by the Department of Education, The University of Hong Kong to teach an elective "Music Therapy and Students with Special Needs" for four consecutive years.
2000
Incorporating music therapy and Applied Behavioral Analysis to create a new program named Intensive Music Assisted Behavioral Training targeted for children with autism.
2003
Invited by the Department of Creative Arts, the Hong Kong Institute of Education to serve as external consultant for modules on Music Studies, B.Ed.(Special Needs) Programme.
2004
The producer, song writer, lyrist and lead vocalist of a music therapy kid song CD titled “ 彭嘉華兒歌作品集 ”.
2005 Designer and instructor of the Professional Certificate In Music Therapy (Children with Special Needs) program (100 hours).
2005
The sole lyricist of “Blue Christmas”, a commercially released CD produced by MMO Production Co. Ltd.
2005 Introduced and taught Neurologic Music Therapy (NMT) in Hong Kong.
2005 The sole lyrist of a CD album “Blue Christmas”.
2007 The co-producer, song writer ,lyricist and lead vocalist of a CD titled “ 音樂治療師的人生頌讚 ”.
2007 Designated a title Neurologic Music Therapy Fellow (NMTF) from the Center for Biomedical Research in Music.

Since 2007

Invited by Jones Lang LaSalle, Reuters, Cathay Pacific, Music Office, LCSD and AT&T to conduct “ The Use of Music in Stress Management ” workshop for their staffs.
